Go to a safe place and call someone you trust.
You may want to call Vassar Security (CARES or EMS) at x7333.
Or, you can call the Rape Crisis Hotline [(845) 452-7272] to speak
with an advocate who can provide information and support regarding
your rights and choices.
It is best to avoid bathing, douching, urinating, eating, drinking,
or changing your clothes because there is a possibility that later
on you will want to pursue prosecution.
Go to the SAFE Unit* at either Vassar Brothers Hospital or
St. Francis Hospital as soon as possible to get treatment for
external and internal injuries. The SAFE Unit offers pregnancy tests
and preventative treatment for some sexually transmitted diseases.
It is ok if you do not want to report the crime, but regardless
it is important to take care of your health. The hospital will
contact an advocate from the Rape Crisis Center to help support
you through the process. CARES counselors are available to support
you as well.
Speak with a counselor. Sexual assault is a traumatic experience
that can cause many emotional repercussions. No one should have to
deal with that alone - what happened is NOT your fault.
*The SAFE project upgrades the care that sexual assault survivors
receive after an attack. Survivors are treated in a private
examination room with a shower, and are offered a fresh change of
clothing. This service is free of charge.
